Yes, the Lloyd's of London syndicate settlement is open until October 30, 2026. If you or your business bought or renewed an insurance policy in the United States from Lloyd's Syndicate 727, 1003, 2003, 2020, or 2791 between January 1, 1997 and April 15, 2025, you can file a claim for a share of $3.57 million. You will need details about the policy, such as the syndicate, policy number, and premium.

Lloyd's policies are often bought through brokers for specialty coverage, so many people do not know which syndicate backed their policy. This page explains how to find out, how payments are calculated, and whether filing is worth it.

Key takeaways.

  • Five Lloyd's of London syndicates agreed to pay $3,570,000 to settle claims of a scheme to conceal a lack of competition in the Lloyd's market. They deny the allegations.
  • You may qualify if you bought or renewed a U.S. insurance policy with Syndicate 727, 1003, 2003, 2020, or 2791 between January 1, 1997 and April 15, 2025.
  • Payments are based on the premium you paid, and shares under $10 are not paid, so small policyholders may get nothing.
  • The claim deadline is October 30, 2026; exclusions and objections are due October 2, 2026.
  • This is the third partial settlement in a case filed in 2007, after about $22 million in 2019 and $7.9 million in 2023.

What the Lloyd's syndicate settlement resolves

The case is Lincoln Adventures, LLC, et al. v. Those Certain Underwriters at Lloyd's, London, et al., Case No. 2:08-cv-00235-CCC-JSA, before U.S. District Judge Claire C. Cecchi in the District of New Jersey. The lawsuit was filed on July 13, 2007 in the Southern District of Florida and moved to New Jersey in December 2007, so it has been pending for more than 19 years.

The plaintiffs brought claims under the federal RICO statute, plus civil conspiracy and unjust enrichment, alleging the defendant syndicates took part in a deceptive scheme to conceal a lack of competition in the Lloyd's market. The released claims cover issues such as broker compensation and contingent commissions, steering, alleged bid-rigging, and other antitrust and anti-competitive conduct in the Lloyd's market. The settling syndicates deny the allegations, and the court has not ruled that they did anything wrong.

The case was stayed until 2012, the current complaint was filed February 12, 2016, and the court denied a motion to dismiss in August 2017. Settlements followed in stages. According to class counsel, earlier partial settlements recovered nearly $22 million in 2019 and $7.9 million in 2023. This 2026 deal adds five more syndicates. One defendant, Syndicate 2488, has not settled, and the case continues against it.

Who qualifies for the Lloyd's settlement?

The class includes, with limited exceptions, all persons and entities in the United States and its territories who, between January 1, 1997 and April 15, 2025, bought or renewed a contract of insurance with a Lloyd's syndicate named as a defendant. This settlement pays for policies with the five settling syndicates:

  • Syndicate 727
  • Syndicate 1003
  • Syndicate 2003
  • Syndicate 2020
  • Syndicate 2791

Only insurance policies count; reinsurance contracts are excluded, and policies from the non-settling Syndicate 2488 are not paid in this settlement. Also excluded are the defendants and former defendants, all Lloyd's syndicates, anyone who opts out, and the judges and their families. Businesses as well as individuals qualify, which matters because Lloyd's syndicates often write commercial, professional liability, marine, and other specialty lines.

Your policy declarations page or certificate usually names the underwriting syndicates and their numbers. If it does not, ask the broker who placed the policy, or call the administrator at 1-877-298-4134.

How much can you get from the Lloyd's settlement?

Payments are based on premium, not a flat amount. Under the plan of allocation, each authorized claimant receives a pro rata share equal to its percentage of the total premium paid by all authorized claimants to the defendants during the class period.

ItemFigure
Settlement amount$3,570,000
Attorneys' fees requestedUp to one-third ($1,190,000)
Litigation expenses cap$200,000
Minimum payment$10

If your calculated share of the initial distribution is less than $10.00, you receive nothing, so buyers of a single small policy may not be paid at all. A business that paid substantial premium to these syndicates over many years could receive much more. Premium is estimated using data class counsel already obtained from the defendants, coverholders, brokers, a settlement database from an earlier insurance brokerage multidistrict litigation (MDL 1663), public information, and what you put on your claim form.

After notice costs, taxes, and court-approved fees and expenses, the rest goes to claimants. Leftover money after the first round may be redistributed if a minimum threshold makes that practical. Class members may owe tax on payments; see do you pay taxes on class action settlements.

How to file a Lloyd's settlement claim

  1. Find your policy records. For each policy, gather the syndicate number, policy number, face amount, annual premium, and effective and expiration dates.
  2. Go to the official site. File at SyndicateSettlement.com, run by the court-appointed claims administrator, A.B. Data, Ltd.
  3. Complete the claim form online, or download it and mail it to Syndicate Settlement, c/o A.B. Data, Ltd., P.O. Box 173075, Milwaukee, WI 53217, or email it to info@SyndicateSettlement.com.
  4. Submit by October 30, 2026. Mail must be postmarked by that date; a private carrier claim counts on its shipping label date.
  5. Answer follow-up requests. Claims are subject to anti-fraud checks and audits, and the administrator may ask for supporting documents.

The settlement administrator and class counsel may accept late claims at their discretion, but do not count on it. For general tips, see how to file a class action settlement claim.

As of September 2026, the settlement is accepting claims and no payments have been made. The fairness hearing is in Courtroom 5B of the Martin Luther King Building and U.S. Courthouse, 50 Walnut Street, Newark. Payments come after final approval, any appeals, and claims processing. In the 2019 partial settlement, final approval came in October 2019 but the court did not approve distribution of the net fund until after a November 2022 motion, so patience is realistic.

Opting out and what happens to other claims

To opt out, send a written exclusion request by October 2, 2026 with your identifying information and details of each policy, including the syndicate, policy numbers, face amount, annual premium, and dates. If you do not opt out by October 2, 2026, you release the five settling syndicates from claims arising from January 1, 1997 through April 15, 2025 that were or could have been raised in the case.

Staying in does not hurt you against the remaining defendant. The notice says participating here will not affect your ability to share in any future judgment or settlement with Syndicate 2488, as long as you fall within that class. The release also does not affect ordinary coverage claims under your own policies.

Large commercial policyholders with significant premium may want to talk with their own counsel before deciding. Our guide on opting out or objecting covers the trade-offs, and a free case review can connect you with independent attorneys.
