What the Siri privacy settlement resolved
The class action was filed in 2019 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California as Lopez et al. v. Apple Inc., No. 4:19-cv-04577. It alleged that Siri-enabled devices sometimes activated without anyone saying "Hey Siri," recorded private conversations, and that Apple obtained those recordings and shared some with third parties, such as contractors who reviewed audio to grade Siri's accuracy.
Apple denied all of the allegations and agreed to pay $95 million without admitting it did anything improper or unlawful. Judge Jeffrey S. White granted final approval on September 4, 2025, overruled the objections, and found the settlement fair, adequate, and reasonable under Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 23. The settlement website lists a notice of appeal and a later notice of dismissal among its case documents; the appeal did not stop payments, which began in January 2026.

Who was eligible for the Apple Siri settlement?
The settlement class covered individual current or former owners or purchasers of a Siri-enabled device who:
- lived in the United States or its territories;
- owned or bought a Siri-enabled iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, MacBook, iMac, HomePod, iPod touch, or Apple TV and had Siri enabled;
- experienced an unintended Siri activation during a conversation intended to be confidential or private; and
- had that happen between September 17, 2014 and December 31, 2024 (the class period).
Claimants swore under oath to each of these points and could claim up to five Siri devices. Apple, its affiliates, officers, directors, and employees, and the judges on the case and their families were excluded. Owning an iPhone was not enough by itself; the class was tied to an unintended activation during a private conversation.
How much did the Siri settlement pay?
The plan of allocation set a pro rata payment capped at $20 per Siri device, up to five devices, for a maximum of $100. The cap was never close to being reached because so many people filed.
In an August 20, 2025 declaration, administrator Angeion Group reported 2,487,788 claim forms received. It had validated 2,213,476 claims covering 7,649,720 devices and estimated the recovery at approximately $8.00 per device. That fund had to cover notice and administration costs, court-awarded attorneys' fees, and service awards first; see who pays the lawyers in a class action.
| Devices claimed | Cap | Reported payment |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | $20 | About $8 |
| 3 | $60 | About $24 |
| 5 | $100 | About $40 |
CBS News reported on January 26, 2026 that claimants began seeing deposits of $8 to $40 labeled "Lopez Voice Assistant," and cited 9to5Mac figures of an average of $8.02 per device and a top payment of $40.10. That gap between the $20 headline and the real check is typical; our guide on why payouts are smaller than expected explains the math.
How the claim process worked
Claims were filed on the official website, LopezVoiceAssistantSettlement.com, or by mail. People who received an email or postcard used a Claim Identification Code and Confirmation Code; others could still file by confirming their eligibility under oath. The administrator reviewed proof of purchase documentation and postmarks on a portion of claims before approving them.
Payments went out by the method each claimant chose on the claim form, including electronic transfers and paper checks. A deposit labeled "Lopez Voice Assistant" is the settlement payment, not a scam. If you are unsure whether a payment or email is real, compare it with our guide to settlement scams; real administrators never charge a fee to release your money.

What if you missed the deadline or never got paid?
If you did not file by July 2, 2025, you cannot be paid from this settlement, and unless you opted out, you released your claims against Apple over these allegations. Only people who filed a valid claim receive money.
If you did file, check your email, bank account, PayPal or Venmo, and mail for a payment or a reissue notice. A reissued payment sent on September 21, 2026 must be cashed or deposited by November 5, 2026. Contact the administrator, Angeion Group, through the official website or at 1-888-981-4106 if something looks wrong. Our guide to what to do if you have not received a settlement check walks through the steps.
About 13,721 exclusion requests were received, most sent in bulk through two law firms, and the court addressed their validity separately. People who validly opted out kept their right to sue on their own but received nothing from this fund.
Apple Siri privacy (Lopez v. Apple) settlement: common questions.
How much did people get from the Apple Siri settlement?
About $8 per Siri device. The administrator estimated approximately $8.00 per device after validating claims covering 7.6 million devices, and CBS News reported deposits of $8 to $40 in January 2026, with an average of $8.02 per device and a top payment of $40.10 for five devices.
Is the Lopez Voice Assistant payment legit?
Yes. A deposit labeled Lopez Voice Assistant is the payment from the $95 million Lopez v. Apple Siri privacy settlement, administered by Angeion Group. Real settlement payments never require you to pay a fee or share a password.
Can I still file a claim for the Apple Siri settlement?
No. The deadline to file a claim, opt out, or object was July 2, 2025. The court granted final approval on September 4, 2025, and payments have already been distributed.
When do I have to cash my Apple Siri settlement check?
Final reissued payments were scheduled to go out September 21, 2026 and must be cashed or deposited by November 5, 2026. The settlement website says no additional reissue requests are being processed.
Why did I only get $8 from the Siri settlement?
The $20 per device figure was a cap, not a promised amount. Over 2.2 million valid claims covered more than 7.6 million devices, and the $95 million fund also paid administration costs, attorneys' fees, and service awards, which brought the pro rata share to about $8 per device.
What was the Lopez v. Apple lawsuit about?
Lopez v. Apple alleged that Siri activated without a wake word, recorded private conversations, and that Apple obtained those recordings and shared some with third parties. Apple denied the allegations and settled for $95 million without admitting wrongdoing.
