Claim deadline passedAtrium Health Pixel Privacy Settlement: File by September 28, 2026
Open until September 28, 2026: MyAtriumHealth and MyCarolinas portal users from 2015 to 2024 can claim part of Atrium Health's $1.8M pixel privacy settlement.

If you had a MyAtriumHealth or MyCarolinas patient portal account at any point between January 1, 2015 and April 10, 2024, you can claim money from the Atrium Health pixel privacy settlement, but the deadline is September 28, 2026. People who actually used the portal between January 1, 2015 and July 31, 2019 share the larger fund; everyone else with an account can get up to $10. The claim is an online attestation with no receipts required.
The case is Julie Roberts, et al. v. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Hospital Authority, No. 25CV057073-590, in Mecklenburg County Superior Court in North Carolina. The court-authorized website puts the settlement at up to $1.8 million. Here is who qualifies for each group and what the numbers mean.

What the Atrium Health settlement resolves
Atrium Health, legally The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Hospital Authority, used tracking pixels on its website and, between January 1, 2015 and July 31, 2019, inside its patient portal. A pixel is a small piece of code from a company like Meta or Google that reports what a visitor does on a page back to that company, often for advertising.
The plaintiffs, Julie Roberts, Judith Sigmon, Darielle Hill, and Chrisanna Brown, allege that the pixels disclosed patients' personal and health-related information to third parties, including Meta (formerly Facebook) and Google, and invaded their privacy. Atrium Health denies that its use of pixel technology gives rise to any claim, and the court has not decided in favor of either side.
Lawsuits over tracking code on hospital websites and patient portals have multiplied in recent years. Many settle for modest per-person amounts because proving each patient's specific harm is difficult. For the broader picture, see our page on health app and website data sharing lawsuits.
Who is eligible for the Atrium Health settlement?
You are a class member if you live in the United States and had a MyAtriumHealth or MyCarolinas patient portal account at any time between January 1, 2015 and April 10, 2024. The class is split into two payment groups, and you can be paid from only one:
| Group | Who | Payment |
|---|---|---|
| Group 1 | Accessed or used the portal between January 1, 2015 and July 31, 2019 | Equal share of $1.5 million fund after fees and costs |
| Group 2 | Had an account between January 1, 2015 and April 10, 2024 but did not use it in the Group 1 window | Up to $10, from up to $300,000 |
The dividing line is July 31, 2019: that is when the pixel was removed from the patient portal, so people who used the portal on or before that date get the larger Group 1 share. Excluded are Atrium Health and its affiliates, officers, and directors; the judge and judicial staff; and anyone who opted out by August 31, 2026.
Not sure whether you used the portal before August 2019? Think about whether you viewed test results, messaged a doctor, paid a bill, or scheduled an appointment online through MyAtriumHealth or MyCarolinas during that time. If you only created an account later, choose Group 2.
If you only used Atrium Health's public website and never had a portal account, you are not in this class. For help reading a notice, see how to know if you qualify for a settlement.
How much will I get from the Atrium Health settlement?
The official website describes the total as up to $1.8 million, divided into two pools.
Group 1: the $1.5 million Settlement Fund first pays class counsel's fees and expenses, service awards, and administration costs for Group 1 claims. The rest is split equally among Group 1 members who file valid claims. Class counsel will ask for up to $500,000 in attorneys' fees plus up to $25,000 in expenses, and $2,500 service awards for each of the four class representatives. If the court approves all of that, less than $965,000 will be left for Group 1 claimants before administration costs. How much each person gets depends entirely on how many valid Group 1 claims are filed, and no estimate has been published.
Group 2: up to $10 each, from a separate pool of up to $300,000. If more than 30,000 people file valid Group 2 claims, the $10 is reduced pro rata. Group 2 payments depend on the administrator confirming from Atrium Health's records that you had an account.
An example shows how the math works. If 50,000 people filed valid Group 1 claims and about $900,000 remained after fees, service awards, and costs, each would get about $18. If 200,000 filed, each would get about $4.50. Those are illustrations, not estimates; the administrator has not reported a claim count. Group 2 is simpler: the $10 holds as long as no more than 30,000 valid Group 2 claims come in.
These are small amounts, which is typical of pixel settlements where the fund is spread across a large patient population. See why class action payouts are often smaller than expected and how class action money is divided.
How to file an Atrium Health claim before September 28
- Go to the official settlement website linked above and click Submit Claim. If you received a notice, have its ID handy.
- Attest that you had a MyAtriumHealth or MyCarolinas account between January 1, 2015 and April 10, 2024, and say whether you used it between January 1, 2015 and July 31, 2019.
- Enter your contact and payment details and submit. The online form must be completed by September 28, 2026.
- If you prefer paper, call the administrator at (833) 930-1153 for a claim form and mail it postmarked by September 28, 2026 to Julie Roberts, et al. v. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Hospital Authority, c/o Kroll Settlement Administration LLC, P.O. Box 225391, New York, NY 10150-5391.
No receipts or medical records are required; the settlement administrator verifies portal use against Atrium Health's records. Be accurate about when you used the portal. A false Group 1 attestation will not be confirmed and could get the claim rejected. With only two days left as of this update, mailing a paper form is risky; filing online is faster. We do not file claims for anyone.

As of September 2026, the claim period is in its final days and the court has not yet ruled on final approval. The final approval hearing is scheduled for September 30, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. Eastern, two days after the claim deadline. If the judge approves the settlement and no appeal is filed, payments usually follow within a few months. Check how to check a settlement's status for tracking tips.
What if I miss the deadline or already opted out?
If you do not file by September 28, 2026, you get nothing and are still bound by the settlement's release once it is approved. The opt-out and objection deadline was August 31, 2026, so it is now too late to exclude yourself. If you did opt out in time, you keep any right to sue Atrium Health on your own over the pixel claims, at your own expense, but you cannot get a settlement payment.
Occasionally an administrator accepts a claim that arrives shortly after the deadline, but that is discretionary and nothing on the Atrium Health website promises it. Do not count on it. Our guide to opting out or objecting explains what these choices mean.
